The "Skier Autrement"(Ski Differently) program by Ecole de Ski Français (ESF) Avoriaz offers an inclusive skiing experience designed for persons with disabilities. Located in the resort of Avoriaz in the French Alps, the program combines specialized instruction, adaptive equipment, and a dedication to accessibility to create a safe and enjoyable environment.
Led by expert instructors trained in adaptive skiing techniques, participants benefit from one-on-one guidance tailored to their specific needs. The program provides also the adaptive equipment, including sit-skis, dual-skis, uniskis, and taxi-skis. Participants can opt for lessons lasting a few hours, a half-day, or a full day. Caregivers and family members are welcome to accompany participants on the slopes.
For persons with mobility disabilities, adaptive equipment such as sit-skis, dual-skis, uniski, and taxi-skis allows those with paraplegia, amputations, or limited mobility to navigate the slopes with ease, while instructors are trained to assist with transfers and provide hands-on guidance.
For persons with sensory disabilities, tandem skiing and audio guidance systems offer a safe and immersive experience, and sign language support is available for those who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Individuals with intellectual disabilities can benefit from structured lessons that employ a calm, sensory-friendly approach, emphasizing clear communication and step-by-step guidance.
For participants with multiple disabilities, customized solutions, including equipment modifications and one-on-one instruction are set up to ensure the best experience.
The Ski Differently program operates during the ski season, typically from mid-December to mid-April. Lessons are available daily, with flexible time slots for 2, 3, or 4-hour sessions, as well as half-day and full-day options.
Pricing is based on lesson duration and equipment needs. Custom quotes are provided, and group rates are available. Ski passes are required and can be purchased separately. Contact ESF Avoriaz for detailed pricing and package options.
Pre-session consultations are conducted to understand participant needs and prepare for a tailored experience. On-site medical support is available for emergencies, ensuring peace of mind.
