Explore the Belgian Coast and wheel through the dunes at the accessible beach in Zeebrugge! Managed by the initiative "Zon, Zee...Zorgeloos" ("Sun, Sea...Carefree") by the local organisation INTER, the beach is accessible by car, with reserved parking spaces in the streets leading to the Strand, and by public transport, as there is an accessible tram stop nearby, Zeebrugge Strandwijk.
The accessible paved path is at the Badengebow, where you will also find the accessible toilet. The beach has accessible changing rooms, with high-low bed and a hoist. Do you need help moving, changing clothes, sitting in the beach wheelchair or going to the toilet? An assistant from Zon, Zee … Zorgeloos will help you. (Please note that the assistants are not nurses and therefore do not help with intimate hygiene care.)
The most fun part is renting (for free!) a beach wheelchair, especially the electric ones that take you out on the dunes to explore effortlessy! The rental is free, but reservations are necessary to ensure you can use one the special wheelchairs. You can book using this phone number 0032 472 90 08 45.
Sun, Sea… Carefree in Zeebrugge is available every day in July and August from 10:30 AM to 6:30 PM.
Free rental (booking needed - call this number to reserve your spot: 0032 472 90 08 45)
The Zon, Zee... Zorgeloos project includes other beaches on the Belgian cost too! They are: De Panne, Nieuwpoort, Oostende, Bredene, De Haan, Wenduine, Vosseslag, Zeebrugge. Check the website of the initiative for more information
